Weekend Getaway??

This past weekend seemed to be the weekend when people took off to rest and relax...but how much rest did parents get??? Weekend getaways often seem to be a good idea until you have to pack up the car and hit the road!

After a nice weekend away I am home and more exhausted than I was when we left! Our weekend getaway may have been a little more trouble than it was worth!

Here are the tips I have after our weekend getaway to make things bearable but I would love to hear what your tips are to make a good weekend getaway even once you a parent!

Tip #1: Pack Smart with your little one's clothes--colour coordinate everything so that if you have to switch shirts or bottoms, everything matches. It's only a couple of days so you should be able to!

Tip #2--When you stop on the road, stop somewhere where there is green space so that your child can run/crawl or roll. It helps them burn off energy and allows them to stretch!

Tip #3--Don't be too ambitious. When you were without children you may have done a 5 hour drive no problem for a weekend away but now when you are doing a 2 day jaunt you don't want to spend too much time in the car. For a two day weekend, keep the ride there under 3 hours if at all possible. If the drive is much longer--try to extend your stay.

Tip #4--Plan to have your little one's sleep schedule interrupted but do plan the sleep arrangements. Bring anything that will make them comfortable--a lovey, a noise machine, their sleep sack. But don't beat yourself up if they are off--it's ok it's only one or two nights.

Tip #5-- Plan some activities ahead of time so that you don't have to waste time making decisions once you are there.
