Traveling with kids can be a challenge. Before you go anywhere--I would do some research ahead of time at some sites that might help provide tips.
One site I find very helpful is travel savvy mom. It's a site that lists some things to do or places to stay when you travel with kids. It also reviews some products (like the best carriers) and provides interesting reviews.
Always do some research before you travel and be sure to call the hotel ahead of time so that you know whether they have cribs/pack and plays available or not.
My biggest tip about hotel-staying... if you have bad weather or cranky kids--it's always great to have a pool on site!
