STROLLER RECALL

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada announced that about 30,000 jogging strollers made by phil&teds USA Inc of Fort Collins, Colorado are being recalled after reports that several adults have caught their finger in the hinge mechanism when folding and unfolding the stroller, posing risk of amputation or laceration.

The recall involves the sport v2 and classic v1 model single-seat jobbing strollers. These three-wheel strollers have a metal frame, cloth seat and a canopy. They were sold in specialty juvenile stores nationwide between May 2008 and July 2010 and were priced between $350 and $450.

The company received three reports of incidents resulting in injuries to the adult users of the jogging strollers. One consumer reported a finger tip amputation and two involved lacerations.

The sport v2 model was sold in red, orange, green, black, charcoal, navy and in graffiti print. Serial numbers included in the recall are 0308/0001 to 0510/0840. The classic v1 model strollers were sold only in red. Serial numbers include 0308/0001 to 0510/0906.

The serial numbers are printed on the inside of the folding hinge. The strollers also have a phil&teds logo on the crotch piece of the harness and either SPv2 (sport v2) or E3C (classic v1) printed on the wrist safety strap attached to the stroller handle.

The CPSC and Health Canada recommend that consumers stop using the strollers immediately and contact phil&teds USA to arrange for the shipping of a free hinge cover kit and repair instructions. The phone number is 877-432-1462 , and consumers can call between 9am and 7pm ET Monday through Friday.
